HopeLine® from Verizon donation helps CASA of El Paso aid survivors of domestic violence
Funds to provide more agency services and advocates for abused and neglected children in El Paso.
El Paso, Texas – CASA of El Paso, a non-profit agency serving El Paso families whose lives have been touched by the national epidemic of domestic violence, recently received a HopeLine from Verizon grant of $20,000 to expand its work. Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine program supports domestic violence prevention and awareness programs in El Paso and nationwide.
CASA of El Paso trains and supports volunteers from the community to advocate for abused and neglected children who need representation in the family court system, striving to provide them a safe and permanent home. A CASA is a Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer who works with abused and neglected children in the court system. When children are removed from their home due to abuse or neglect, the judge will appoint one of our volunteers, CASAs, to be that child’s advocate and help determine what is in the best interest of the child. As an objective party, the CASA functions as the child’s voice as they go through the court system.
“This donation from Verizon Wireless will help us reach out to those who need our services in the community,” said Arianne Marcee, CASA of El Paso Community Outreach Coordinator. “It will be used to support volunteer recruitment, training, advocacy and supervision of CASA volunteers. These volunteers provide a voice to those children separated from their families and who are in El Paso’s foster care system, many of which have been affected by domestic violence.”
The HopeLine program collects no-longer used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any wireless carrier. Phones that can be refurbished are sold for reuse and those without value are disposed of in an environmentally sound way. Proceeds from the program are used to provide wireless phones and cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention and awareness.
HopeLine phone donations are accepted at all Verizon Wireless Communications stores across the nation. For more information about HopeLine, visit www.verizonwireless.com/hopeline.
